Built in 1940 as a training field, this was adjacent to the Japanese-American internment camp (whose remains are still visible on the map to the southwest across US-395). The airfield remained open until 1956, and in intermittent use until at least 1975.
Ignore the spammer. This is very much a private airport, and this is a gentle reminder that inclusion on this website does not imply that any facility is open to public access or safe for landing. Hello, I came across this website today trying to find out what happened to Rose Aviation at Hawthorne Airport and saw your post. My name is Linda Silvertooth, I am the Linda you mentioned in your post. I worked at Rose from 1977-1981 and have kept in touch with several other friends from those days (Kathy Hesse, Kevin Clover). I knew Jean as the former owner and and as an FAA Pilot Examiner, Art was the owner at the time I was there. Jean passed away in the early 80βs and Art passed away in 2018. I know Claude is gone also but I donβt remember when he passed. I took several check rides from both Jean and Claudeβ¦..great people!! I saw Don Pedersen in 2013 at a Rose reunion, he was the Chief of Police for Culver City at that time, but I think he has retired. Were you at Rose Aviation during those years? I went on to work for the FAA for over 35 years and retired in 2020. It was a great time during those days at Rose! Linda
I've given this a provisional name based on the location, but I've come up with the same problem as @im -- not mapped, no data available. More research needed.
I have been to the San Diego airport several times to drop my mom it is a very crowded airport but still the management here works very fast we didn't have to stand in line for a long time.
Very bumpy surface, Iβd say its βiffyβ for a Cirrus with wheel pants. Incredible spot, short walk to wonderful beach, tie downs and picnic tables on site. Need to sign a waiver and agreement with the operator before landing.
My instructor pointed out this field a while ago, and every time I fly above it - it does look like an airport. I tried simulated engine failure to approach in this airfield but it's pretty steep on one end and very close to Livermore on the other. Not sure if this is a private field or maybe it never went into operation. Could not find any information about it either

The listed coordinates place this at El Capitan Meadow! This does not appear to be listed on Freeman's Abandoned Airports site.
Sometimes, the FAA coordinates are just plain wrong. I found this airstrip using Topo Maps and the address of the owner. It's closed now, but you can at least see where the airstrip was cleared out in past years.
Half Moon Bay Is My Favorite town to Vacation in, and when I discovered this airport, I took a look around, I like it's location next to pillar Point and The Half Moon Bay Jetty.
Las Trancas Airport Is A Very Tiny Airport in many ideas, Its just a dirt airsrip off of Highway 1, However, Las Trancas Is A Nice Airport, And I want others to know that it is a tiny airport, Since it is so Small, The airport is only limited to Piston Single And Piston Agricultural Aircraft. I want to try buying a plane and landing on the rather tiny airstrip myself, but well not yet... It's right next to a Lumber yard off of Highway One thats right next to the airport, The Airport is a nice airport, but its unknown, Even to Locals Of Davenport! It dosen't even has its own wikipedia Page!
The Airport has a nice but very tiny building thats Clearly Visible When Driving On Highway 1 because it has a wind measuring cone on the top. Its Very Small.
Ideas With the airport:
Buy A Piston Single Or Piston Agricultural Plane And Land Here Yourself, if you want, land here multiple times.
When the place is not used, Help develop the runway by possibly painting it or making it wider by clearing off the grass.
Maybe Add Some Lights, So The Cabrillo Highway Travellers Can See The Beautiful Airport, Also Maybe A Generator.

I have visited so many airports but I love the staff and the environment of San Francisco Airport, as John F Kennedy is the busiest and the New York is also the rush and rush of persons, but the coordination of airport staff and proper management of everything at San Francisco, Normally we take the flights from Pearson International Canada, and land up to US, we prefer the San Francisco Airport if we have to travel to California.
